The West Central Portion of Michigan%u2019s Lower Peninsula, near Wilson State Park, experiences four distinct seasons. There is a saying for the region that goes %u201Cif you don%u2019t like the weather, wait a day and it will change.%u201D This is true because the area is influenced by both the cold, dry air coming down from the Arctic, and the warm, humid air coming up from the Gulf of Mexico. Summers are generally warm and humid, but not unbearably so, and winters are cold and snowy. Nearer the shoreline, lake effect breezes help moderate the temperatures in the summer and moisture laden air coming off the lake in the winter creates heavy snowfalls in some areas. Spring can be a mixed bag of cool temperatures and snow, or mild with periods of rain and thunderstorms. Fall is often the sunniest, driest time of the year in Michigan%u2019s Lower Peninsula.
