Lake Ann
is a small village of 219 residents, located in Benzie County, just twelve miles west of Traverse City near the Pere Marquette National Forest. The town contains two small lakes, Lake Ann and Bryan Lake, a gas station, post office, restaurant and a couple of other stores and businesses with services for tourists. Although small, Lake Ann lies in one of the most scenic parts of northern Michigan. It’s not too far from the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, and Pearl Lake, aptly called the “secret pearl” of the Grand Traverse Bay area. Pearl Lake borders the 80,000-acre Pere Marquette National Forest, and offers great fishing, swimming, boating, water skiing and wildlife viewing. Lake Ann is also close to many state-maintained cross-country skiing and snowmobiling trails. Traverse City is just 18 miles away and offers several beautiful and challenging golf courses, sailing, swimming and other water sports, as well as shopping and fine dining. Other points of interest in the Lake Ann area include the Spirit of the Woods Museum and the village of Interlochen, home to the famous Interlochen Center for the Arts. A fifteen-minute drive takes you to Sleeping Bear Dunes National Park, which is a stunning expanse of sand dunes, beaches, lakeshore and forest. The region surrounding Lake Ann in Benzie County draws millions of visitors each year who enjoy the natural beauty and recreational opportunities of this area.

The lake effect is quite strong on the northwest area of Lower Michigan near the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Park. This area has a distinct four-season climate, although Lake Michigan helps modify temperatures, keeping them cooler in late spring and early summer, and warmer during late fall and winter. Showers and thunderstorms are common in spring and summer, and precipitation is generally evenly distributed during the crop season of April through September, receiving an average of 17.45 inches of rain during that time. The lake also acts as a giant humidifier, increasing moisture content in the air throughout the year. However, extremely hot and humid summer days are not that common and don't last long in this part of the state. Snowfall varies greatly from season to season.
