Lake-City
is the largest town in Missaukee County, which is located in northern Michigan. The town is named for beautiful Lake Missaukee and is located on the lake's eastern shore. Rivers and streams, woods, parks and campgrounds surround Lake City, and there are 4,800 acres of inland lakes in the area. It is no wonder that this region has become so popular with vacationers. Fishing is outstanding in Lake City's lakes and streams, which are stocked with brook, brown, and rainbow trout, bass, walleye, northern pike, crappie, pan fish and perch. Hunting is also a very popular sport here, where over 100,000 acres are wild public land in which grouse, woodcock, turkey, ducks and white tail deer reside. Hiking, biking, swimming, golf, and snowmobiling are just a few of the other ways to spend your time in Lake City. There are four 18-hole golf courses and one 9-hole course within a thirty-minute drive of most places in Missaukee County. And, just an hour away from this small town is the famed Interlochen National Music Camp, which features some of the world's great musical artists in weekly summer concerts. Other special events in town include the "Greatest Fourth in the North" celebration in July, and the "Festival of the Pines" in the fall.

Four distinct seasons with a lake effect that is quite strong during much of the year describes the climate of the northern region of Michigan's Lower Peninsula. The lake effect increases cloudiness and snowfall during late fall and winter, and also modifies the temperatures - keeping them cooler in the summer. Northwest Michigan sees a lot of moisture throughout the year in the form of showers and thunderstorms during the summer and snow and ice during the winter. In winter, the humidity from the lake condenses as snow when it reaches land, creating quite heavy snowfalls in some areas. During the winter, the temperature of the lakes continues to drop, and ice sometimes covers portions of the lakes. Summers are warm, but periods of extreme heat and humidity are infrequent.
