Fife Lake
is a tiny village of approximately 400 residents located on Highway 131 in the northern region of the state. It’s situated in the southeast corner of Grand Traverse County, on the banks of a beautiful little lake of the same name. Fife Lake, the village, contains a public beach, several good restaurants and several small shops. The lake offers swimming, boating and fishing, tennis courts, basketball courts, and a skate park, playground and a very nice beach and picnic area. Nearby activities include hiking, biking, horseback riding, rafting, parasailing, wind surfing, and downhill skiing, cross country skiing and snowmobiling. Traverse City is just twenty minutes away and is known for their beautiful and challenging golf courses, and the town offers a multitude of attractions from shopping and fine dining, to wineries and casinos. Fife Lake is within a couple hours’ drive to both Mackinaw Island and Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. If you are planning a vacation to the northern region of Michigan’s Lower Peninsula, Fife Lake is a peaceful area, where you can be as active or inactive as you wish. Four distinct seasons with a lake effect that is quite strong during much of the year describes the climate of the northern region of Michigan's Lower Peninsula. The lake effect increases cloudiness and snowfall during late fall and winter, and also modifies the temperatures - keeping them cooler in the summer. Northwest Michigan sees a lot of moisture throughout the year in the form of showers and thunderstorms during the summer and snow and ice during the winter. In winter, the humidity from the lake condenses as snow when it reaches land, creating quite heavy snowfalls in some areas. During the winter, the temperature of the lakes continues to drop, and ice sometimes covers portions of the lakes. Summers are warm, but periods of extreme heat and humidity are infrequent.
