Carson-City
is a small community located in Montcalm County in the exact center of Michigans Lower Peninsula. It was incorporated in 1887 and became a city in 1960. Today, Carson City has a population of approximately 1,200 residents. This very pretty little town has several parks and recreational opportunities to offer visitors. Haradine Park is located on M-57 on the west edge of the city and includes a pond with a dock for fishing, picnicking areas, a play area for children and horseshoe pits. This park is bordered on the west side by Fish Creek, which has been designated a Trout Stream. West Park, also on the west side of the town, consists of approximately 20 acres and offers a half-mile walking trail, a quarter-mile walking trail and a playground area for children. West Park also has a sand volleyball area, basketball court and several picnic tables. It is also bordered by Fish Creek, as well as Butternut Creek. Finally, Grove Park is located four blocks north of M-57 on Williams Street in Carson City. It is 22 acres in size and has picnic tables and a pavilion, a play area for children and, in wintertime, a sledding hill at the north end of the park. Carson City has a small town atmosphere with beautiful tree-lined streets and friendly residents. It makes a wonderful place to base a family vacation and is just a short drive to the popular Six Lakes Recreational Area.

Central Michigan in the Lower Peninsula has distinct four seasons. Due to its location near the Great Lakes, it does experience lake effect, such as increased cloudiness during late fall and early winter. Summer precipitation comes in the form of showers and thunderstorms. The Great Lakes also act as a giant "heat sink," which helps moderate the temperatures of the surrounding land, cooling summers and warming winters. It is also a natural humidifier, and this causes an increase in the moisture content in the air, creating heavier snowfalls in the winter. However, seldom are there prolonged periods of extreme heat combined with humidity in central Michigan. Average annual snowfall is 36 inches, but varies greatly from year to year. Michigan is on the fringe of the Midwest tornado belt, but sees less of this activity than other parts of the country.
