Montague/White Lake is an area of western Michigan’s Lower Peninsula that lies along the shore of Lake Michigan. Montague is a small town located in Muskegon County and two lakes in the county that flow into Lake Michigan are Muskegon Lake and White Lake. The White Lake/Muskegon/Montague County region has an abundance of recreational opportunities that draw thousands of visitors each year. Muskegon State Park is located four miles west of Montague on Lake Michigan and has over two miles of pristine shoreline and forested sand dunes that leave visitors awestruck. The park has three campgrounds and picnic areas, a lighted boat launch at Snug Harbor, swimming, beachcombing and sunbathing, and twelve miles of lighted hiking trails. The trails are a diverse series of loops that meander through a variety of landscapes, from flatland to bog; from lowland to the top of scenic sand dunes. Other outdoor fun to be found in Muskegon County includes horseback riding, kayaking and canoeing, biking, fishing and hunting. Wintertime activities include cross-country skiing, ice skating, a luge run and ice fishing. There is always something going on in the White Lake/Muskegon/Montague area such as the Summer Celebration and Muskegon Air Fair. Other nearby points of interest include the Gillette Nature Center at Hoffmaster State Park, the Michigan Adventure Amusement Park, Muskegon Museum of Art and the Muskegon County Museum.

Montague/White Lake Weather & Climate

West-Southwest Michigan on the Lower Peninsula has four seasons where summers are warm with cool nights and winters are cold with snow. Lake Michigan helps modify temperatures, keeping them cooler in late spring and early summer and warmer during late fall and winter than in other parts of the Midwest. Showers and thunderstorms are common in spring and summer, and precipitation is generally evenly distributed during the crop season of April through September. The lake also acts as a giant humidifier, increasing moisture content in the air throughout the year. However, extremely hot and humid summer days are not that common and don't last long in this part of the state. Snowfall varies greatly from winter to winter.
