Sister Lakes is a resort area in southwestern Michigan that has ten lakes within a 5 to 6 mile radius. Three “Sisters” make up the heart of Sister Lakes – Round Lake, Big Crooked and Little Crooked Lakes. Every type of water sport imaginable is available here, such as swimming, canoeing, sailing, fishing, water skiing, tubing and jet skiing. The beaches are also great for a romantic late evening stroll. The area is also well known for its many public and private golf courses. The Sister Lakes region is beautiful countryside with wooded areas, orchards, lakes, rivers and vineyards. It’s not just for summertime fun either; it’s beautiful in spring when the wildflowers are blooming, and the crisp, cool weather of fall turns the trees gold, orange and red. Winter brings with it lots of snow and opportunities for downhill skiing, snowmobiling, sledding, snowboarding and cross-country skiing. The nearby town of Dowagiac is filled with beautiful Victorian era architecture, with a vibrant downtown for shopping, restaurants, theaters and museums – big city amenities but with the friendliness and charm of a small town. The Sister Lakes region is located just thirty miles north of South Bend, Indiana and 12 miles east of St. Joseph/ Benton Harbor in Michigan.

Sister Lakes Weather & Climate

Southwest Michigan enjoys four seasons with a moderate climate, surrounded by vast forests, fertile farmlands, the Lake Michigan shoreline and numerous inland lakes and rivers. Snowfall is moderate along the Lake Michigan shoreline. Heavier snowfall in the state is found in the Upper Peninsula and the upper reaches of the Lower Peninsula. The Great Lakes help moderate winter temperatures, but still, average highs in January in the southwest portion of the state can be expected to be in the 20s. Breezes along the shoreline of Lake Michigan helps keep temperatures cooler in the summertime and humidity is considered average. Statewide annual rainfall is around 35 inches, with the higher amounts in the upper regions of the state and along the Lake Michigan border.
