St Joseph
is just 90 minutes from Chicago, nestled on the banks of the St. Joseph River overlooking Lake Michigan. It is located in what is often called the “Riviera of the Midwest,” and is a deep-water port town in a chain of small towns that stretch from the state line in a spectacular arch of natural beauty along the Lake Michigan shoreline. St. Joseph has picturesque brick-paved roads, a downtown region filled with art galleries, unique shops, antiques, little cafes and beautiful views of the lake as a backdrop. You can sit and relax as you watch boats slip in and out of Eagle Point Harbor, listen to an outdoor concert along a bluff, or take the kids to the “Curious Kids Museum,” which has “hands on” exhibits that encourage a child’s curiosity as it helps them learn. St. Joseph and the surrounding area has unlimited recreational choices. There are nature trails to hike or bike, sand dunes to climb and beaches for swimming and sunbathing, boating and fishing or golf. St. Joseph is also home to festivals such as the Blossomtime Parade, the Venetian Festival and the Krasl Art Fair. But it is probably most well known for its “Antiques on the Bluff” show which is held along the tree lined Lake Bluff Park that overlooks Lake Michigan. This large antique show is held on the first Sunday of the month starting in May and continues through October.

Southwest Michigan enjoys four distinct seasons and there is a saying that goes, %u201Cif you don%u2019t like the weather, wait a day and it will change.%u201D This is because both the warm, humid air coming up from the Gulf of Mexico, and cold, dry air from the Arctic influence the climate. Located near the shores of Lake Michigan, the climate is also influenced by the lake effect, which helps keep temperatures mild during the summer and increases the moisture content in the air throughout the year. In the winter, this moisture condenses as snow as it reaches the land, creating heavy snowfalls in some areas, known as "snow squalls" on the downwind shores of the lakes. Showers and thunderstorms are common in the spring and summer, and fall is often the sunniest time of the year in Michigan.
